THINGS I LOVE vol.26

This time we will be introducing the COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS trench coat that was released around 1996-7. When I bought this coat, I often wore trench coats. I mainly loved trench coats by Burberry, Margaret Howell, and Nick Ashley, and I also liked the trenches by Tom Ford's new Gucci. What we must not forget is the new mod-style coat proposed by Prada. It had a single front, and some people called it a "single trench," but I wore it with skinny slacks. Speaking of shoes, I loved pairing my Silvano Mazza with big-frame Christian Ross sunglasses. Basically, I chose a tight size trench coat. This COMME The des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS trench coat is a gem that I bought during the mod style boom.
It was also impressive to see musician Pete Townshend walk as a model on the COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS runway around 1997. Pete Townshend is the guitarist for The Who. As The Who, he also provided a song for the film ``Farewell to Youth'', which is set in Brighton and depicts young Mods and Rockers. In this movie, the music, fashion, and visual beauty have no difference in temperature, and each is closely intertwined, which is wonderful. It's a chilling movie. As a person behind the scenes, I was really envious of this movie, and I still think that I would like to participate in the production of such a movie at least once.
The trench coat we picked up this time is made of bonded material and features a lightweight yet firm surface. The length is three quarters. The length is spacious yet easy to wear. As mentioned above, in the 90's it was basic to wear short slacks with side gore boots, but recently I've been wearing Vowels white jeans with Trickers wingtips. This kind of combination seemed to be standard around Brighton Beach...
From around 2000 to 2005, I often used Brighton Beach as a filming location. From London, you can get there in 1 to 2 hours by car. It's like going from Tokyo to Kujukuri in Chiba for a photoshoot. There is a small amusement park along the beach, and cafes and small hotels line the shore. In the movie ``Farewell to Youth,'' Sting appears as a hotel porter, and his portrayal is very realistic. In this movie, the main characters ride around on scooters and show off their mod fashion. All of them are really cool. The U.S. Army's M-51, known as a mod parka, often appears, but trench coats also often appear. The combination of this military coat M-51 over a suit with a tight silhouette created an outlaw atmosphere. It's a look that's straight out of a mod style textbook. However, at the same time, this skinny trench coat is also a symbolic item of mod style. Turn up your collar and wear sunglasses with large lenses. Since the mid-1990s, I've gotten into the habit of wearing sunglasses even though they're not too bright, and this is largely influenced by this mod style. Even now, as a result of this, the style of ``sunglasses everywhere'' continues.
