This is the second part of a special conversation with illustrator Noritake. In the second part of the capsule collection, which will be released today, July 17th (Friday), we will introduce the behind-the-scenes stories behind the creation of the clothes that the two of them will discuss in a relaxed atmosphere, as well as the thoughts they would like to convey through this collaboration, which was only possible because of mutual trust.

Envisioning the future of fashion

What Mr. Oshima wants to makeIt's good to makeNoritake

Please tell us the secret behind the production of collaborative products.

Oshima

I told them the general outline of the items: T-shirts and eco-bags, and requested illustrations and text. Why is that? We continued the conversation while playing catch.

Noritake

Basically, I don't have the item I want to make, and the priority should be on what Mr. Oshima wants to make, so I'm giving him the illustrations to use. If I have decided on a picture in advance, I may ask for opinions on the proportions that will suit the picture. I think it would be better to have them make what they want to make. Isn't it okay to make more? I might have said that.

Oshima

I think that a one-off project is not suitable for the Lanvin Collection. Therefore, this initiative is scheduled to be held three times in total. That being said, I think it would be interesting if there was something that the person who picked it up would notice, not just because the pictures were cute. I hope I can convey a sense of story.

Noritake

If this illustration is well-received, we are discussing whether it would be okay to create a different product using the same illustration.

Oshima

Since this is an illustrated T-shirt worn by an adult male, I adjusted the amount of cuteness. This pattern also has various patterns and has become this shape. We have designed our products with attention to how they will look when coordinated. Tenugui can be used in place of a handkerchief, or they can also be tied into a bag like a bandana.

If it becomes an opportunity to knock on the customer's interest.Noritake

What are your expectations from this collaboration?

Oshima

I think it's natural to go shopping for clothes and be glad you bought them. However, when I go shopping for clothes, I find the drawings cute and become interested in illustrations and illustrators, and the same goes for lookbook photos and the music in the store.I always think that it would be great if there was more information and stimulation that I could get from interacting with brands other than clothes. I think it would be great if this collaboration could spark the interest of our customers.

Noritake

Personally, until now, most of my collaborations have been with brands that target people in their early teens to early 30s. Recently, I've been working a lot overseas, so I haven't been doing many collaborations in Japan. This collaboration offer came at a time when the age group had suddenly increased, so I thought it was an interesting timing. Mr. Oshima is also a brand aimed at adults, and it wasn't long before we met, so I thought everything was just right.

Oshima

Good... Seriously, luck and timing are important.

Noritake

I liked the fact that I felt like I didn't listen to songs by bands that I liked a few years ago that I don't listen to much anymore. Here in life! It's like a once-in-a-lifetime chance, like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I felt like I was doing something that could only be experienced at that time. I'm just doing my job as usual, but I'm now at an age where I'm starting to appreciate things like that.

That person will be responsible for making the clothes.Oshima

Is there anything the two of you would like to try in the future?

Oshima

Actually, a few years after we met, someone approached me and said, ``Let's do something next time.'' Since it was so sudden, I just emailed him and said I would consider it.

Noritake

There was a time when I was interested in a project where I could make clothes that I liked with people I thought were good without drawing. I've actually done it several times. I think that sometimes when I feel like making something like that, I honestly thought I'd like to try it and approached him.

Oshima

At that time, I was really nervous (lol)

Noritake

At that time, I even thought about opening a shop. I'm not in that mode right now, but I'd like to do it again when the wave comes.

Oshima

I think Noritake really likes fashion, but have you ever been interviewed about fashion-related topics in the past?

Noritake

I'm very interested in fashion. But we never talked about fashion.

Oshima

That's right. Have you always loved clothes?

Noritake

Going back to when I was in high school, there was a boom in second-hand clothes, and I loved second-hand clothes from Europe. When I moved to Tokyo, I enrolled in the Setsu Mode Seminar where I could study illustration, and I had a lot of friends who were also attending fashion school at the same time, so that had an influence on me. The school's president, fashion illustrator Setsu Nagasawa, personified the idea of ``living lightly.'' My interest in attitude and fashion deepened. At the time, I didn't have much money, so I looked for clothes at the Meiji Park flea market and had fun even though I didn't have to spend a lot of money. After that experience, I began to prefer a simple style that was sometimes called normcore. Later, after becoming an illustrator, I received more offers from apparel companies through my drawings, and my interest in fashion began to branch out. I receive information about many exhibitions, so I try to go as many as possible. Looking at fabrics and sewing can sometimes feel like looking at an exhibit at an art museum. The experience of wearing it is also fun.

Oshima

The interesting thing about fashion is that even if you draw similar pictures and patterns, there will be a difference between clothes made by a naughty person and clothes made by an elegant person. There will be people.

Noritake

Different tools and different people make different choices appear in the collection. It's fun and educational to see different brands.

I will have a solo exhibition in Kyoto for the first time in 6 years.Noritake

I heard that you will be holding a solo exhibition in August.

Noritake

I will be holding a solo exhibition in the lobby of Ace Hotel Kyoto in Kyoto from August 1st (Saturday) to October 31st (Saturday). It's been 6 years. I stayed in Kyoto, did research and drew, and then returned to Tokyo and continued drawing. I'm the type of person who can't draw quickly, so I personally keep a tight schedule.

Oshima

Is it only Noritake's works? Do you also have goods for sale?

Noritake

I think I'll prepare some goods as well. I'll think about it after everything is done. But the main thing is the pictures.
